Congress, celebs at liquor lobby party
By: Nikki Schwab and Katy Adams Washington Examiner 10/07/10 9:00 PM EDT So this is what happens when you mix together liquor industry folks, members of Congress and a handful of Hollywood. Everyone becomes a lot more, ummm, frank. The Distilled Spirits Council held its annual fete at Mount Vernon Wednesday night, inducting four new members into the George Washington Spirits Society over cocktails, fireworks and dinner. Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Ky., was honored for forming the Congressional Bourbon Caucus. "I tried to tie the Bourbon Caucus into the health care debate because whenever I feel bad, I drink," he told Yeas & Nays as he sipped Woodford Reserve. "Didn't quite get that written into the health care bill." We also caught Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, and his wife Elizabeth smooching before the fireworks display went off over the Potomac. Creative Coalition head Robin Bronk brought her folks, too. "I'm going to auction myself," joked a tipsy Teri Polo, of "Meet the Parents" fame, upon hearing that the starting bid for rare Mount Vernon whiskey was $20,000. (It went for $25,000). Later, actress Alfre Woodard proudly displayed her bottle of Jim Beam, autographed by Kid Rock, that she had won in the silent auction. Rachael Leigh Cook and Steven Weber attended as well. Olympian Apolo Ohno was also honored, though his dad attended in his place. ( Source ) ------- “When I was born, the doctor asked my parents, ‘How do you want to spell Rachel?’ And they were, like, ‘There's another way to spell it?’ It didn't cost anything extra, and they liked it, so they added the ‘a.’ But now at restaurants when I put my name down, they always call out Raquel or Rach-a-el.” - RACHAEL LEIGH COOK. |
