Here is a pic of Rachael from Wednesday (28th) in Santa Monica at the Viceroy Hotel wearing a cute Wildlife Works T-shirt of a Harp Seal. Smile

http://www.keg.com/HN-HTML/RLC_TR_HarpSealTShirt.jpg.html

I chose to share this particular pic from the event because, at the last chat, we were talking about animals and someone asked what was my favorite animal, and I said either a baby harp seal, a koala, or a cat of some sort. Smile I then told my heartbreaking story of how I wanted a harp seal stuffed animal when I was little and never got it because it was pricey. Frown *Weep weep* lol Smile I'm still dealing with that one with my therapist. hehe Wink

Anyway, enjoy! Smile

Nice T-Shirt she's wearing.

BTW, Harp seals can be found here in Quebec, when the Gulf of the St-Laurence River between North Shore, Gaspé, the Magadalen Islands and the provinces of Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island becomes icy in the winter and form big ice sheets. This is where they grow up, and where they're hunted Frown Sad to see these seals (in French: Blanchons) being killed for their fur.

In history, a famous French actress, Brigitte Bardot, went strongly into defense of the Harp Seals when she retired of the movies at the end of the 70s. She caused quite an uproar, and people listened...

I haven't gotten a mailing in like 4 months. Am I somehow unsubscribed or has it just been that long? When's the celeb adventures thing going to be be available? Nag nag nag..... You know TR some things are more important than whatever obligations to your friends, family, job you have, and your social life; like your obligations to the people you've never actually met before who will still likely be ungrateful when you do come through on these things. Wink

Geez, why do I care so much about someone I've never met? Rachael, maybe you're my Sally.

I haven't sent out a ML in about a month, so if you haven't received on in about 4 months, you probably were unsubscribed for some reason. Just sign up again and I will add you back on. Smile

I also have to endlessly apologize for how slow I have been to getting that video up on the site. I ran into a few snags, but they should be resolved inside of a month, I am thinking. Smile

I can't tell if it signed me back up for the list. I just get a blank screen when I type in my email. Does anyone want to send me back issues of the mailing?

Either way, what was this event all about. I don't get it. Rachael just tried on different clothes it seems and had over 68 pictures taken of her. I can't imagine having that many photos taken of me in just a few hours.

Geez, why do I care so much about someone I've never met? Rachael, maybe you're my Sally.

i understand that many people think seal hunters are bloodthirsty killers who get great joy out of stomping onthe heads of baby seals, but in the last few years, seals have been hunted less, and as a result, have started eating codfish in the grand banks off newfoundland, depleting the fish stocks, taking the food and money out of many fishing communities.

so if you're more concerned about a seal than an impoverished, unemployed and helpless family, then by all means, protest the seal hunt.

killing a seal is not a cardinal sin, no more than killing a chicken or a cow. inuit people have used seals for clothing, food, and fuel for hundreds of years. just cause the animal is cute doesn't mean that it should be left to overpopulate and now cause an unbalance in the ecosystem.

But do you realize that they club the BABY seals to death with heavy clubs? They do this so that they don't puncture the fur, so that they can use every bit of it. The BABY seals are the ones that are all white and fluffy and those are the ones killed. Just think about that a bit before trying to justify it.

Besides Nikabrik,

Eating fish and hunting fish isn't all we can can do. I 'm shure those fishing communities can do something else aswell. We are the ones exhausting all the fish-ecosystems in the world, not the seals.

Don't mean to offend anyone, just am against the killing of a babyseal just for it's fur... well I am sort of against any killing for fur, what's wrong with cotton? Smile

Indeed Smile

In today's day and age, it is far from necessary to kill animals simply for their fur. There are plenty of fake furs out there now for people who have a need for something fur-like to wear. It just isn't right killing something for it's fur alone. Not to mention, killing them in such a cruel manner.

I am not "preachy" about people who choose to eat meat, but the fur issue is something I am quite passionate about.

Interestingly, I just stumbled across this article from today's NY Post:

Even if they (PETA) take action against Canada, I am not endorsing the killing of baby seals for fur...

I saw that practice on TV: disgusting !
