I happened across an advertisement for a New Orleans benefit art book that appears to have used Rachael for the influence on the cover art. I saw the ad and definitely saw the connection. I even dug up the photo that the artist appears to have used to model his drawing. His name is Billy Tucci and he appears to be a comic book artist.
Anyway, I made a scan so you guys could judge if you think I am crazy or not. http://www.rachaelleighcook.net/pic-bin/new_orleans_jaz...dshot_comparison.jpg Here is the full scan of the ad, if anyone wanted more information: http://www.rachaelleighcook.net/pic-bin/new_orleans_jazz.jpg -TR This message has been edited. Unless he didn't want to be sued for use of image without permission, I don't think the artist used that picture. The eyes are too small and the face and neck are wrong. I agree the two pictures are similar, but I think the similarity is more coinscidence than copying. Again, the disimilarities could be because the artist used the image without Rachael's permission.

You think so, Matt? I stopped in my tracks when I saw the ad and even knew which photo from She's All That it was from. I think the artist definitely used it as a model and just changed some features and details a bit. Look at the hair, the eyebrows, the tilt of the head, even the dress. The more I look at it, the more I am sure that he must have used that headshot as a model for his drawing. I don't honestly think he figured anyone would notice, and I also doubt he fears being sued over such a thing.
Then again... I could be wrong and it could just be the most amazing coincidence. -TR |

I think you are right TR...
What give it is that he copied the light and shadow of the picture... You can see that the shadow on the shoulder is the very same shadow on both picture... If you could argue that it's a coincidence you would have to pretend you invented those exact same shadow...and that is simply impossible...you could not invent the same exact light on both... The shadow on the forehead is also cut at the same place... So he would have to argue that he draw his model with the exact same light, placed at the exact same place, giving the exact same shadow... It's a forgery ! Let's call the cop :-) (but I would like to draw that good) |

Maybe I am too nitpicky, but I still feel the similarity between the two pictures is coinscidental. In a fast glance I don't think SAT. In a close inspection, the distance between drawings tip of chin and top of head is too long and the chin is too narrow.I wouldn't go with copy, I would say "inspired by". I bet someone is thinking "Hey, what's the difference?". I come from a family were your speech is disected and nitpicked, I must have inherited it. I will seek help soon!

Let's compromise and say the drawing was inspired by SAT. Quite frankly, at first glance I did not see SAT. Then upon closer inspection, the distance between the tip of the chin and the top of the head seems too long in the drawing, and the chin itself seems too narrow. Again, I don't think the drawing an exact copy but a product of an artistic muse. I am seeking help for being pathologically exacting in speech, soon!

umm, artists don't copy the same thing always, but without a doubt he used that picture to draw off. of course the chin or whatever isn't the same. he, like alot of artists, like to look at a picture and then draw up their own shapes and features, at the same time, keeping it the same as the original. it's a very nice drawing too. good pick too! now let's stop picking at the picture and just enjoy it.
