OK so yet another Vegetarian Topic and perhaps not a good idea Big Grin BUT....

I'm curious for why she is a vegetarian. Is it a mere preference of taste or is it more of a moral belief for her? Smile

"Fish is a four letter word." As a child, didn't she have a bad experience with a fish while swimming? It was briefly mentioned on the Outdoor Adventures program, but nothing has been elaborated on about it.

Most of the Hollywood vegetarians are into the lifestyle for politcal reasons. It gives them a chance to force their lifestyle choices on others. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have it in for the People Eating Tasty Animals.

Why is Rachael a vegetarian? My guess is that it's for the health aspects of it. Her skin is beautiful, as is the complexion of all the lacto-vegetarians I've met. Most meat eaters don't have that good of skin, resulting in all of those skin care products the celebs endorse.

Doreen Carter: You are so freaky!
Jack Carter: Oh, well, we're all a little freaky, Doreen. It's the straight ones you've got to worry about.

She isn't vegan, so it probably isn't as much a moral issue as it is a health one.

I am new here, so hello and peace to everyone!

If I may comment about not eating animals...

One fact is that, if on average, every American cut back their dead flesh intake by just 10%, there would be enough grain to feed all the hungry of the world. Guvrnment permitting, of course...ahem.

Another fact is that due to factory farming, these animals suffer years and years of physical, emotional and mental abuse.

One more note in a myriad of facts:
Heart disease is the #1 killer of Americans. Cholesterol is the #1 contributor to heart disease. Cholesterol is only found in animal flesh and "products". Meat also is a known factor in causing impotence, cancer, obesity, diabetes, and contains large amounts of
anti-biotics and growth hormones.

My point is that there really is no simple, single "this is why I am veggie" or "this is how far into being veggie I am" answer.

It is impossible for anyone to be 100% vegan by definition. Animal "by-products" are literally used in everything from some make-up to tires. However, by just being aware of how these animals are treated, one can come to their own conclusions about how it effects their life choices.

I eat a wider variety of foods now, than I ever did when I ate flesh. Plus, I finally cook for myself. My mind, body and soul feel incredibly enhanced. Do what you want, though, but I highly recommend giving a vegetarian lifestyle a chance.

Peace and compassion,

As Martin on The Simpsons would say "Your very statement if faulty!"

Kidding aside, sure, people are going to eat what they want- but I know that many, after seeing how these animals are treated, and realizing the health risks involved, choose to stop eating flesh.

I only missed the taste of flesh for a few weeks-Yes, I remember liking it, but with so many other tasty options available, it is no hard task to forgo contributing to torture and slavery. Just do a search for "vegetarian restaurants" or "vegetarian recipes" -- so many out there!

http://www.vegdining.com/WorldIndex.cfm

I mean, what if someone told you that they were going to take your dog, lock him away with hundreds of thousand of other dogs, cut off his testicles without anesthesia, beat him, feed him a bland diet, inject him with growth hormones that make it nearly impossible for him to stand up, brand him without anesthesia, make him literally live in piles of dog feces reaking of ammonia, led to a chamber where he will see many of his friends bludgeoned and tortured, then to be slowly killed himself- enduring much of the process of having his skin and limbs cut off without anesthesia, while fully conscious. How would you feel about that?

What is the difference between dogs/cats and cows, pigs and chickens? The only main difference I can see is that dogs and cats are true carnivores, whereas cows, pigs and chickens are strict herbivores. So, why, as a collective, does most of the world (apart from the view areas that do eat cats and dogs) view the killing of certain species "ok" and the other "acceptable"?

There is no need to kill.

"The animals you eat are not those who devour others; you do not eat the carnivorous beasts,
you take them as your pattern.

You only hunger after sweet and gentle creatures who harm no one, which follow you, serve you,
and are devoured by you as the reward of their service"

-- John Rousseau

This is factory farming:

http://www.factoryfarming.com/gallery/photos_beef.htm

"As long as humanity continues to be the ruthless destroyer of other beings, we will never know health or peace. For as long as people massacre animals, they will kill each other. Indeed, those who sow the seed of murder and pain cannot reap joy and love."

Pythagoras
550 B.C.

"You feel much more healthy. I feel clean and clear when I eat vegan. Also, would you eat your cat? So, why eat a cow? I once was at a farm and I was staring at a cow and pet it, and he was so cute. I thought, “I don’t want to chew you."

I concur that animals are indeed treated in many needlessly horrible ways...

BUT

This is not an animal rights debate forum.

Don't jeopardise this thread. Frown

You are funny.

Talking about not eating flesh jeopardizes this forum about as much as the inane banter about how "cute" Rachael is.

Besides, you brought it up. Hello.

Don’t get me wrong- I wasn't trying to be flippant. It just seems like some people have a habit of objectifying others (as well as animals). I know that most people around here appreciate her inner beauty, talent, and creativity. I think that a big part of that beauty comes from her being a compassionate, thoughtful person. You can tell a lot from just looking into someone’s eyes.

So, if we can talk about beauty, then where’s the problem with talking about animal beauty, compassion, and world beauty/peace, ya know?

It’s all connected.

Vapour means that the moderators are more tolerant of inane "rachael is cute" threads than political debates, since they do tend to lead to flame wars more than something so uncontroversial as "Is Rachael cute or not?"or "How cute is Rachael?"

On topic whenever I've asked someone has always said that she said something like it was a habit that just stuck, but she's clearly been anti-fur (she's been involved in anti-fur events and such; she always wears faux leather/pleather/etc) so there are some animal rights/cruelty issues that play into it.

Who remembers the soy bomb guy? Haha, your name reminds me so much of him.

Geez, why do I care so much about someone I've never met? Rachael, maybe you're my Sally.

Actually, talking about diets/lifestyles does jeopardize the thread as the admin like us to stay pretty much on topic.

Speaking of which, she sure is cute.

"Flame wars".. What, are we in 2nd grade? I'm chill, you're chill, nobody seems to be getting upset, so no problem, right? And, if for some weird reason, a mod sees fit to delete the thread, then so be it. I don't see it happening, unless someone decides to get nasty, in which case, they can simply delete the post.

The thread is titled "vegetarian IV" not "10 easy ways to torture friendly animals". Which sounds more humane to you?

"Okay this is really me now, no more hiding. Listen we're all worried, we're all in pain, that just comes with having eyes with having ears, but just remember one thing it can't get any worse, it can only get better. I mean high school is the bottom. Being a teenager sucks, but that's the point, surviving it is the whole point.

Quitting is not going to make you strong, living will. So just hang on and hang in there. You know I know all about the hating and the sneering, I'm a member of the 'why bother' generation myself. But why did I bother coming out here tonight and why did you? I mean it's time-- it begins with us not with politicians, the experts or the teachers, but with us- with you and with me, the ones who need it most.

I believe with everything that's in me that the whole world is begging for healing, even the trees and the earth its self are crying out for it, you can hear it everywhere. It's the same kind of healing I desperately needed and finally feel has begun with you.

<A police chopper appears over head>

Everyone mix it up-- it's not game over yet-- it's just the beginning, but it's up to you. I'm calling for every kid to seize the air. Steal it, it belongs to you. Speak out, they can't stop you. Find your voice and use it. Keep this going. Pick a name, go on air. It's your life, take charge of it. Do it, try it, try anything. Spill your guts out and say siht and fcuk a million times if you want to, but you decide.

Fill the air, steal it. Keep the air alive... TALK HARD!!!!

The problem with controversial topics is one person replies with no, the next guy sez YES, and the next one sez NO, before you know it, it's out of control. Snowball effect, emotions are tough things to keep on a tight leash.

All the same, she sure is pretty.

Like I said, if someone gets silly, then the mods can delete the post. I don't see any "yes, I'm right", or "no, you're full of it" conversation here..

I haven't seen this pic of Rachael anywhere but here:

http://www.peta.org/feat/sexyveg2003/index.html

Scroll down, she's the last picture. Unfortunately, it no longer has an enlarge photo feature-- for a while it did..

Confession? I've only seen "Anti-Trust"!... can I still post here? What should I see next? Any suggestions? I thought see did a great job in "Anti-trust".

Right on- thanks. I dig Letters to Cleo. (I read about Kay Hanley helping with the music).

Have you ever heard their version of "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac? It's incredible.

Well, as interesting as a debate like this can be, please refrain from continuing it here. I am sure that these types of topics will be welcomed on a board somewhere else where it fits the subject without starting a "flamewar". Wink

Thanks, gang.

Oh really now, just eat what you want and enjoy it. You will only live once, why deny yourself a steak if you are truly carnivorous?

I have an issue with eating meat. I eat it all the time, I simply do not think about the treatment of the animals, or refer to my meal as "flesh". somehow, those two always manage to make me sick. But simply "meat" doesn't bother me, unless I give it too much thought.

Flamewar? I haven't seen a good old flame war since I tried playing games on the msn gaming zone. lol ahh the memories

Chaos, Panic, Disorder - I see my work here is done.
