I just saw American Crime last week and I loved it. I was just wondering who has seen it and what you guys thought?

I thought the movie itself sucked. I liked the Cary Elews character and I thought Rachael showed that she is matureing as an actress by playing a character who is either bi or is a lesbian. I wonder if she'll follow up by being in a Desert Hearts-like or Bound-like movie. Any good lesbian would know about those movies.

See, I actually liked the movie itself, but I've only heard everyone say bad things about it. I guess that's why I was the most curious as to everyones inputs.
haha, you are right about those two movies, they are definitely good ones, and I have definitely seen them both, a few times! ----------------------------- One olive or two?....one day I'll have two ~Vera~ ---------------------------- |

Careful with spoilers. Not everyone has seen the movie.

i hated the film. the albert bodine character was camp beyond belief [btw not all english men talk like he did]
as for any good lesbian [and no i'm not prepared to label myself bi, lesbian or straight] liking desert hearts and bound i think is a sweeping statement [and yes i realise it was joke so if rachael never does another bi or lesbian role again then that's ok with me. she doesn't have to be either, in film or in reality, i'd still like her lots. |

If you read my post again I said would know, not like. The few lesbians I have known loved those movies, but you are right in that my statement was too broad. I thought that the women in both films were down right sexy. Sorry to get off topic. "Don't JACK with the RIPPER!"-Rachael as Schmally in Scorched |

In response to the movie topic stuff, coming from a lesbian point of view, there are different reasons for liking movies that contain lesbian undertones. In my opinion, the grappling rollercoaster of emotions that occur in lesbian relationships are not easily portrayed in the media, but are largely objectified for the male audience. It is because of that, that people do not take it seriously, or view it as a relationship as that of a lesser nature. I would tell anyone that wants to truly see the myriad of pieces that make up the 'lesbian world' to watch the L Word. This series conquers the many different types of issues that face the lesbian community. Sorry to rant and rave about this. I just don't want anyone to think that I only appreciated this movie due to the lesbian undertones. I just liked the movie, period!

Although I have only seen the first season, I agree that the L-word is a good blueprint for non-exploitive lesbian based movies. I realize that the lesbian subplot in American Crime is miniscule as far as the plot goes. I just never thought that Rachael was ready to be that daring. Granted not very many people saw American Crime, but Rachael is not as popular as Charleze(?) Theron or Hillary Swank, so playing a homosexual could have been detramental to her career.
