Yeah, we went with a 700 pixel width a long time ago, because 800x600 was the standard screen size back then. I just widened it to 900 pixels though. If anyone is still using less than 1024x768 they really need to visit a Best Buy or something.

Mut told me you are perhaps planning to change the site´s design?
I´d like to help if you want. The problem is that I know some html but barely any php and css programming. Blogs like wordpress are running on these. I am running a wordpress blog but I only used a already existing one and just changed a few things and changed teh look by replaing the graphics. I woudn´t really know how to include stuff to get everything in like rlc.net used to have or how to include the Message Board.
Perhaps a redesign of teh already existing site, like changing the graphics and stuff, would be a good idea, too?

I have the same problem with PHP but I know some CSS, if that helps.

That could be a good thing.

I would need to talk to TR first, but if we ever did a re-design we would need a graphic artist (familiarity with building web designs in PhotoShop, Gimp, etc.)

The designer wouldn't need any programming knowledge. A basic knowledge of HTML and CSS would be useful, but not strictly required.

I have very recent experience with WordPress, but admittedly I did not design my layout myself. Of course I just didn't download a template and go, I changed everything about it, color, some placements, added widgets etc.. so yeah being a "designer" isn't a must with wordpress.

I also know everything there is to know about HTML, I'm mildly proficient with CSS. PHP I did do on my site, but all cut/paste/modify. Javascript is also up there in my brain, but I have to cut/paste and modify, cannot write it from scratch.

The site I ran was getting about 5,000 hits a day very quickly, and I was overwhelmed with the fast success and couldn't keep up, so I gave it up (the content updates needed to be multi-daily). I kind of did have plans on making a RLC themed site this year, mostly because it's much less of a workload, but yes I've grown tired of the look and lack of updates here (minus the forum, which is always getting updates from a few key members).

However, to truly help grow her fan base, I believe you need an active front page, not just good forum members, and I was going to commit to that. Also, you need to be "with the times" - the step of adding Twitter is finally a step in the right direction, but other than that, we have never seen any changes here.

I have a vBulletin board I'm not even using anymore. Any webmaster here should know that vBulletin is the forum of choice for most good websites. The one here is fine, but vBulletin can do ever so much more. If I make a site of my own having to do with Rachael, I will probably use it there - but if a true overhaul can be done here, my services as well as my vBulletin license are here.

WordPress is only a blog element and is only one tool among many used in building a site.

Forum software is a commodity business these days and I don't agree with your assessment of vB, but to each his own. Smile Regardless, the message board software here is fine. TR can change it if necessary.

I don't think that you and I have the same project in mind. I appreciate your input, but I think you would be better served by putting together the Rachael site you mention above. After all, the web could always use more Rachael sites!

Well, I think we do have the same project in mind, just a different way of approaching it.

Although you're right that WordPress isn't everything, there isn't a single thing on this site right now that can't be done through WordPress and very simple changes to the PHP within it, is there?

Sorry to challenge you on this lol, I want to see this site do well, as it's the defacto official RLC website, but what is the goal here? The goal doesn't have to mean agreement with any suggestions, anything better than status quo would be the right direction I think.

I'm along for the ride either way

Guess sunjammer doesn't have the time anymore to do the re-design of the site. Steve do you think Freefall or Quel could do that too? If they still would like to...
