Until the java chat is working 100%, it is recommended that you attend using IRC. The java chat will be working properly soon, so have patience. It actually works now but is a bit annoying.

mIRC is a chat program you can use to access this. Go to http://www.mirc.com download the software, then go to options, connect, and next to where it says IRC Network it has a little add button. Do as follows:
