There you are, singing karaoke with the radio blasting in your car, when some lyric comes along that reminds you of *her*, badaboom, badabing, ba da--bang. What song, what lyric, and who is the artist.

For me, one night I was scanning images of RLC from FHM and Bikini, listening to Meat Loaf's CD from his appearance on VH-1 Storytellers. He talks about how Jim Steinman wrote a song specifically for the Hitchcock film, Psycho. I read the lyrics, listen to the song, and glance at the image that just got scanned into PhotoShop 4.0 LE.

"Oh, baby, your the only thing in this whole world that is good and pure and right
And wherever you are and wherever you go there's always gonna be some light..."

from Bat out of Hell
(c) 1977 Jim Steinman, from the musical Neverland, and Meat Loaf's classic rock album of the same name

I've never listened to the song the same way since. And the image in question, I believe, featured her wearing the red shorts and black top.

"here she comes shes so long and lean , when she walks its like in a dream, and shes by the most extroidnary woman you have seen, ......
cause she 'll just smile that secret smile and you wont know what it means,.. to be alighted by her company, the object of her smile"

Song : "That Girl" by The Gadflys, from their Many Happy Returns albulm. The band is an awsome Jazz/Blues group from right here in Canberra , Australia.

(to any Australians if you watched the show Good News Week you might have caught their songs a few times)

It just fits perfectly.

"Possum Kingdom" by my favorite band, the Toadies:
I'm not gonna lie
I want you for my
my blushing bride
lover be my lover yeah
don't be afraid, I didn't mean to scare you
so help me Jesus
I can promise you
you'll stay as beautiful
with dark hair and soft skin
forever, forever

oh yea and "She's got a way" by Billy Joel

Hey, I have one that really haunts me:

(Photograph) I don't want your...
(Photograph) I don't need your...
(Photograph) All I've got is a photograph,
I wanna touch you.

Def Leppard sang that.
It's haunting because it made me realize that there might be no point of obsessing when all you feel is emptiness, realizing that the one you're obssed with is million miles away from you. But on the other hand, you need her. It's a paradox of want and need.

Here are other songs that also haunts me of Rachael:

Astronomy - Metallica/ Blue oyster cult
Parrisienne walkways - Gary Moore
Is this love - Whitesnake
and least but not last:
Secret garden - Bruce Springsteen

If you know one of these songs, take a listen and tell me what you think.

On a happier note, Billy Joel's Uptown Girl is good.

This one just came to me. And again, they are Jim Steinman's words. The song title: Hot Summer Nights (You took the Words Right out of my Mouth):

"You took the words right out of my mouth,
just as you were kissing me..."

Dream video concept: singing "Read 'em and Weep" with her being the one the song is addressed to.

You know, I heard this Japanese Rock Song by Luna Sea, and the song blew me away.
I didn't understand the language, but when I found out the meaning to the words, it kept reminding me of Rachael.

Here's the Japanese lyrics:

Rosier (by Luna Sea)

Kagayaku koto sae wasureta machi wa
Neon no kouzui muyuubyou no mure
Kusatta yabou no fukidamari no naka
Miageta yozora o kirikizandeita biru
Yume no nai. Kono sekai.
Kagayaku hoshi sae mienai tokai de
Yozoro no owari o sagashimotomete
Kono yoru ni kazashita hosoi yubisaki
Kotae o sagashimotometeiru
Yurete. Yurete. Ima kokoru ga nani mo shinjirarenai mama
Saiteita no wa my rosy heart.

Yurete. Yurete. Kono sekai de ai suru koto mo dekiru mama
Kanashii hodo azayakana hanabira no you ni
Rosier. Aishita kimi ni wa. Rosier. Chikadukenai.
Rosier. Dakishimerarenai. Rosier. Itoshisugite.

[English Verse.]
By the time I knew, I was born
Reason or quest not being told
What do I do, what should I take
Words "God only knows" won't work for me
Nothing starts nothing ends in this city
Exists on severe lonesome and cruel reality
But still I search for light
I am the trigger, I choose my final way
Whether I bloom or fall is up to me
I am the trigger.

Yurete. Yurete kono sekai de ai suru koto mo dekiru mama
hakanaku chitteyuku no ka hanabira nayouni
Rosier aishita kimi ni wa Rosier chikadukenai
Rosier dakishimerarenai Rosier jibunsaemo

And here's the translations:

Town that's even forgotten its glitter.
Floods of neon. Crowds of sleepwalkers.
Amidst wind-scattered pieces of rotten ambition
Towering buildings slice the night sky into pieces.
No dreams in this world.
City where shining stars can't be seen.
I search for the end in the night sky.
I held up a slender fingertip, searching for answers in the night.
Shaking. Shaking. Now my heart believes in nothing.
The one that bloomed is my rosy heart.
Shaking. Shaking. In this world it's not even possible to love.
Like bright, mournful petals.
Rosier. To you whom I loved. Rosier. I can't get near you.
Rosier. I can't hold you close. Rosier. Too dear to me.
I've pricked my heart.
By the time I knew, I was born
Reason or quest not being told
What do I do, what should I take
Words "God only knows" won't work for me
Nothing starts nothing ends in this city
Exists on severe lonesome and cruel reality
But still I search for light
I am the trigger, I choose my final way
Whether I bloom or fall is up to me
I am the trigger.
Shaking. Shaking. Now my heart believes in nothing.
The one that bloomed is my rosy heart.
Shaking. Shaking. In this world it's not even possible to love.
Scattered about like petals.
Rosier. To you whom I loved. Rosier. I can't get near you.
Rosier. I can't hold you close. Rosier. Not even myself.

God, it does get in does it?

Photograph and Possum Kingdom are good choices. I just saw the Toadies in concert a few nights ago.

You are 18 year old girl who live in small city of Japan
You heard me on the radio about one year ago
And you wanted to know all about me and my hobbies
My favorite food and my birthday

Why are you so far away from me?
I need help and you're way across the sea

I could never touch you - I think it would be wrong
I've got your letter and you've got my song

They don't make stationery like this where I'm from - so fragile so refined
So I sniff and I lick your envelope and fall to little pieces every time
I wonder what clothes you wear to school
I wonder how you decorate your room
I wonder how you touch yourself and curse myself for being across the sea...

...As if I could live on words and dreams and a million screams
Oh how I need a hand in mine to feel

[That's Weezer.]
