New Found Glory is on MCA now? oh my. . Jimmy Eat World is on Dreamworks, New Found Glory is on MCA, what is the world coming to?
Moose (They are ruining music) They who? I never knew that success was hemlock to music! I wonder if people felt that way about Rachael's success. I wonder if this ever passed anyone's lips, "OH NO!! She was so good when she was in Tom and Huck, now that she's famous though..." I think we should celebrate other people's success, just as we celebrate Rachael's. How will I drink from that stream? How will my heart sing your praise? How can I lay down in green grass fields when my soul is so afraid to? |

Once they are "taken over" by larger companies, their music will start to change and conform to the kind of music that the general public wants, not the kind of music they want to play. Thus goes the system.
Moose (I don't await their next albums) |

Well yeah, Moosegirl is right, when larger companies take over the bands, they usually become commercial. But it all depends on the record company, for example, Fatwreckchords and Epitaph aren`t that small record companies either and still they haven`t ruined any band`s music.

What system? I see what you're saying about labels twisting the music, I mean, Vagrant records is famous for that. Look at what happened to Hot Rod Circuit! But, you see, if a band is good, then like HRC, they will still find a way to make excellent music. As far as the Jimmy Eat World issue goes, they spent their life-savings on "Bleed American", and were actually worried that their last check to the studio would bounce. When Dreamworks decided to pick it up, they also made it clear that they did not want to change a thing on the album. So everything that your hear on that album is 100% Jimmy. Then again, they did alter Ash's "Nu-Clear Sounds" for an american market, those wankers. Look, the artist has more say than people believe, if you're going to blame anyone, blame them for not taking a stand. I just realized how little this had to do with anything... How will I drink from that stream? How will my heart sing your praise? How can I lay down in green grass fields when my soul is so afraid to? |

The band just has to stay true to themselves and not care about the money or any of that stuff. So what if a giant label offers them loads of cash and demands to change their plans about their CD. Even if they had to change as little as 1%, it still wouldn`t be worth it. I say, no compromise.

It's true, look at bands like Blink 182, Green Day, Bush, and most dramatically No Doubt. Have you guys heard them before they got big? All were very awesome. I don't like any of them now. They have totally changed their music. It may be because the industry made them, or because they wanted to. But I don't think they really wanted to. No Doubt used to be ska, now they are techno! How can you willingly make a change like that?!?!?

I'm not saying this ALWAYS happens, but it is very common, no doubt about it. Many people are in it for the money. But there are also many bands that don't change their music to conform, and are not in it for the money.

I agree, but I still like Blink I guess its just cause Ive liked them for such a long time. I hate the kind of people that just exclude bands just because there popular though. Blink did change ALOT though, and it pissed me off, but I guess they deserve it cause there all great musicians. Anyway mtv pisses me off they ruined mxpx too.

I used to think that, then I saw them live, they were TERRIBLE, and immature. This made me lose all respect I had for them. And it also made me realize they are a very engineered(sp?) band. Moose (I still like Green Day |

I still like Blink 182. Ok, I haven`t been to any of their concerts, but what I`ve heard from their live CD, they make a great show. Sure, they`re a little immature, but that`s cool, I guess. Oh and how has MTV ruined Mxpx? Did they play a video clip of their song? I haven`t seen it yet, and probably never will, but that`s probably because we have German MTV.
But yeah, not all bands get ruined by joining bigger record companies, for example, Ryker`s were on Warner and Madball were on Roadrunner, but they still remained true hardcore. |

Yea, I saw blink live to, they were alright, but the stuff they make up on guitar and bass are pretty good, and there drumming is excelent, it kind of seems like Travis kind of changed their style, I liked scott(old drummer). Mxpx was on mtv quite a while ago, they didnt get half as bad as blink, but I still like mxpx alot.

I don't think MxPx is that bad yet. Their newer CDs are definitly not as good as thier older CDs, like, say, "Let It Happen", but I don't know if that has to do with "selling out" because I don't think they have done that.

I really don't consider Blink or MXPX or anyone else in a specific style of music, I just say its music and if it sounds good its Great and if it sounds bad it Sucks Simple as that

sometimes selling out is waking up - Sean Ingram (Coalesce).
I apologize for saying anything. This says it all. I'll try to stay away from posting meaningless babble from now on.... How will I drink from that stream? How will my heart sing your praise? How can I lay down in green grass fields when my soul is so afraid to? |
