It was an overall pretty good film, I think. It had some funny parts, and sad parts (of course.)
The beginning was kind of choppy, but it started to flow around the middle. And the ending...it wasn't great, I didn't especially like it at first, but after I thought about it some, I think I'm cool with it.
I do have to say though, that besides Rachael, Agnes Bruckner was really good.

Is it a big release? Or will it be a select theatres only sort of deal? EW gave it a lousy review, but then, they like reality TV, so I can't really take them seriously...
You're not Rick James, $!^#&, and you're not Dave Chappelle, either!

Her best work in recent years...playing a schizo gave her lots of opportunities to really go for it...and she is always major-league cute...I was also impressed by the male lead, Jonathan Tucker's performance-quite dynamic-and Val Kilmer is wonderful as the drill sargeant...go see this movie, Rachael fans!
thats all good half of the films dont get realesed where i live but i will get them all i have got 12 know and i got stateside from caiman usa and it come yesterday it took a long time to come but i got it.
A date hasn't been firmed up yet, but Starz is going to offer Stateside through their Video On Demand service. If you subscribe to Starz, most cable services will let you access their VOD content for free. I'm really not a fan of the movie at all, but if you can see it without having to pay anything extra...
a great film - well worth buying on dvd [if you are able to play region 1 titles of course] as it has a commentary featuring rachael and some interview material too

Stateside was released in the theaters in Norfolk, Virginia sometime last year, but only for a very brief time. I think it was due to the military in this area, or perhaps because some filming may have taken place here. All I know is that one of the guys in the theater was in the movie as a drill instructor. Does anyone know if filming took place in VA?
As for it being released anywhere else in theaters, I don't know.

The booklet that is included with the Stateside DVD is wrong in saying that Rachael's father is a psychiatrist, he is a social worker. This info is for the diehard fanboys/girls( or, as the rest of the world call us, totally obsessed geeks ) like myself.

It's going to air on Starz proper throughout August -- 8/1, 8/10, 8/11, and 8/25. Apparently it's being made available on their VOD service at the same time.
Although Stateside is airing on Starz-HD simultaneously, it's not going to be presented in high-definition. (Despite the "-HD" in the name, only around a quarter to a third of the movies they show are in high definition.)
It's also airing on Showtime on August 11th, coincidentally. (Just as it won't be shown in high-def on Starz-HD that day, it won't be on Showtime-HD in high-def either.)
