Does anyone have info on "The Big Empty"? When is it released (I think it's 11/14 but I'm not sure)? What's it about? How limited is the release?

According to someone at the IMDB message board for The Big Empty, it will be released to the AFI Fest on Nov. 9, then go to select cities on Nov. 14.

I picked this off of www.compleatseanbean.com/bigempty.html:

Rachael Leigh Cook:
"The movie's about a guy who agrees to bring a mysterious bag to the small desert town of Baker from L.A. and what happens to him on the way. I play a restless 19-year-old who tries to convince Jon Favreau's character that aliens exist and I know how to join them."
(From Hollywood Exclusive by Marilyn Beck & Stacy Jenel Smith, 21 January 2002)

From the same website:

The Big Empty will have its world premiere at the AFI (American Film Institute) Fest in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 9, 2003. Artisan Films will be releasing The Big Empty in select cities on November 14, 2003.

Hope this helps.

Yup, "The Big Empty" has its world premiere at the AFI on the 9th (Sunday) at 7pm in the ArcLight Theatre 10. Tickets are sold out for that show (too bad, you might miss Rachael! Wink), but there are some still available for the Monday Noon show. Smile

After the premiere, "The Big Empty" will then have a limited release in selected cities on November 14th. Smile This one will be fun.

Anyway, I think I should maybe move this to the "News & Information" section. Smile

Damn... I hope it gets released near where I live. Anyone know if the movie is gonna be released anywhere near Plainview, NY (11803)? I checked movietickets.com and they don't even seem to know the movie exists.

Has anyone seen this version of the poster yet? Smile

By the way, I have tons of nice photos from the premiere, but Rachael wasn't able to attend, so I doubt they would interest the gang very much. LOL Smile

So, did anyone here see it at the AFI Fest? Smile

"The middle of nowhere is a funny place to find yourself."

I like that. Should be a tee shirt or bumper sticker.

I wish I'd said that.

TR, you have tons of pix of the AFI event? It convinces me more than ever that you are on the fringes of the entertainment industry. Perhaps an intern at Hollywood Insider, which has more secrets than the NSA. Or your the guy at the One Hour Photo who develops all the pix for the poparrazi. Big Grin

I watched Jimmy Kimmel last night... partly because of this post, partly because I just like Jon Favreau, and also partly because a contact I have with "The Big Empty" production told me that they were doing a live feed last night from Vegas. Therefore, I watched. Smile It was amusing; Jimmy Kimmel isn't a bad host; the show had some good funny moments. I liked when Jon was betting $10,000 at a time from a blackjack table and promised to share his winnings with the studio audience if he managed to win three hands in a row and parlay it into $80,000. Smile (Unfortunately for the audience, he fell just short... and after three tries too! He claimed he was betting with his own money. lol) Smile

Anyway, I was pleased to see them plug "The Big Empty" several times, and Jon mentioned Rachael as being in the movie with him. Smile No clips were shown, but it was nice to see some national TV promotion for a small picture like that. Smile It was also cool that Rachael got mentioned. She is second on the bill, ya know. Wink
