Did Tangled get released overseas and not here in the states? Or was it a straight to DVD project all along?

Thanks to Mut, I know that the DVD is available in Germany (since the 10th) for rent only. I also understand that the DVD was released in Italy back in September. The DVD is a Region 2 DVD so it will only play in European DVD players. The U.S. version is not yet available so we will just have to wait. The Europeans were lucky with this one. wink

I have not seen any sign of it in the UK and it is not available to buy. When was the film out in America?

I think it was only released on VHS in Italy (under the title 'Giovani Assassini Nati') It is however due for release on DVD in the Netherlands on the 21st of February.

Also... and I may be mistaken... but I think that the German rental DVD has only a German dubbing and not the original English language.

It doesn't have the English track? Wow, that is bizarre! That is a bummer if it is true. frown Some people, like me, prefer subtitles and hearing the original actors' voices. I never watch anything dubbed; it drives me crazy!

afaik there is an English original language version on the DVD, too. I read it on the homepage of a DVD-mail-order (is that correct to say?), and I ordered a copy - otherwise I wouldn't have.
As TR, I always watch those movies in the original language (subtitles, if I don't understand a scene) to hear the actor's voice wink .

LOL Nice Chaos! smile I'm with TR on this one, subtitles all the way. Most movie buffs prefer subtitles, that way you actually get to hear the (presumably talented) actor's tone of voice, rather than some cheesy underpaid voice actor.

That being said, the majority of people are not movie buggs and don't want to have to read subtitles while watching a movie. This is why anime that is shown on American TV is dubbed (e.g. Dragonball Z). I'm actually surprised that Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon did as well as it did, seeing as it was all subtitled. But then again, perhaps the people who love martial arts movies are more tolerant.

Admittedly though, some movies are improved by dubbing. All those old kung fu movies are hilarious, and the dubbed voice just make them more funny.

Oh, and to stay on topic, I want Tangled on DVD! smile

To be fair to our brother and sister fans of Rachael overseas, let us rejoice that they had first dibs on one of her movies. wink

After all, most of her films have been produced here in the states, and by default we get all of her films released here first. Let us share her with the rest of the fans around the world. For that's where she's making her new movies. One in Italy, one in Germany, one shooting now in France... and Josie was shot in Vancouver, BC, right Claude?

Rachael may not be that well known, but by all definitions, she is an international star.

Now the question remains, is this to be a direct to DVD project? Or will it be released to theatres here in the states first and then go to DVD?

Right, "Josie" was shot in Vancouver, so's "Get Carter", "Antitrust" and "Outer Limits". Other Canadian shootings for Rachael included "Texas Rangers" in the Calgary, Alberta region, as well as "Tangled", "Defenders" and "Strike/All I Wanna Do" in Toronto (there was this "Invisible Girl" project due in my hometown of Montreal, but...)

I believe she likes european experiences very well (don't know if she met some German guy...Germany is east of France... And Cologne is not far from Paris...)

Looks she's doing a "around the World on reels"

But coming back on topic, no one answer me yet if this DVD has been made as a Region 2 or an All Region DVD...

Please answer me from Germany !

I agree as well. My friend Dave and I watched Das Boot and Wings Of Desire, the original versions with the subtitles and it was much better that way! smile

Renoir I would suspect that the DVD is a German Region 2 DVD which would be fine for me in the UK if I could figure out where to buy a copy.

It can be bought from Germany here: http://www.avides.com/
It's quite expensive though. I think if anyone has managed to wait this long, they'd be better off waiting for the Netherlands release. DVD's are usually quite reasonably priced over there.

According to that Web site it looks as if it is German only.

it IS a Region 2 DVD, but there is an English language version on it, too, though it is not mentioned at avides.com but here: http://www.verleihshop.de/start.afp?!_0KT10K04D (go and search ("Suche") for "tangled", a direct link didn't work) wink
