Variety has reported that Rachael has secured a role in TNT's epic 12-hour limited series "Into the West," from executive producer Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks TV. Smile

The series tells the story of the opening of the American West in the 19th century, through the eyes of two multigenerational families, one of white settlers and one of Native Americans.

The project will air in the summer of 2005.

By the way, you may also notice that Daniel has a role in this project, as well. Wink

You guys asked her to get back to work... well... you got it! lol Wink

This sounds really quite exciting.

A different kind of project which I think would suit Rachael really well. Good cast.

And with the success of the the likes of "Deadwood" - pretty good timing too Smile

Looking forward to it.

TNT is one of Ted Turner's cable stations. Smile If you get basic cable almost anywhere in the U.S., you probably get TNT.

Hey, it's Spielberg.. it's going to be good and it's going to be popular.

Hopefully it's on in Canada.. usually TNT stuff can be found on TBS, but not everything.

Does Rachael's character find out that she is part Native American and displays bigoted behavior towards Native Americans so that people don't suspect she's part "injun"? No, that's "True Women". Laugh Out Loud

Is this being filmed in New Mexico? I think my brother was going to be a stand-in for an Speilberg film but I'm not too sure what it was going to be about. (I think he was going to be an Asian migrant worker. The shooting conflicted with school so he's not going to do it.)

Hope you're well!

Yup, part of it is being shot in NM and part in Canada. Smile Too bad your brother couldn't be part of it. That would have been neat. Smile Maybe he could have met Rachael and ticked you off, Roza. hehe Wink j/k

Here is a little Q & A with Rachael about "Into The West" and her character:

A Conversation with Rachael Leigh Cook (Clara Wheeler)

Q: Why do you think Steven Spielberg would devote 12 hours to a story like this?
A: We are in an important time in American history. There have been a lot of movies that portray this time period, but no one has ever covered it so thoroughly as we are attempting. It captures a really interesting period. The gold rush is fascinating, in general.

Q: What are some of the most dramatic elements in this series?
A: This series has all the elements of drama: love, hate, revenge, murder, greed and envy.

Q: Tell us a little about your character, Clara Wheeler.
A: Clara is 15 and is an aspiring clothes designer. She loves fashion and clothes, and her family is very supportive. After the tragedy that occurs with her family, she has to begin her life the best way she knows how by heading to Omaha to meet her extended family.

Q: I know that David Rosemont and Steven Spielberg share a dream that this will be a film that lives in schools for years to come. What do you think about that?
A: I think it is perfect for the school system. It is really true to form in every aspect. All the production departments on INTO THE WEST have been careful to remain true to the period from the costumes to the language. It is a good, accurate representation.

Q: Your husband, Daniel Gillies, is also working on this series. Did you discuss the project during production?
A: We definitely talked about it when we got home and traded notes. We both really like Sergio, the director. He’s such a talent. I’m so excited to be working with him.

Thanks for the "Into The West" team for sharing this with the fans. Smile
