I hate to break this news to the fans, but I just learned today that the Hal-9000 server that hosts Roza's website (along with her message board) is going to go offline permanently in two weeks. This means that unless Roza decides to pay for hosting elsewhere, her site will be offline for good. Frown I'm a bit saddened by this news because her site and MB are almost institutions.

Ben's website (Obsessive Fixation) is also hosted on Hal, so that one is likely to vanish too, unless Ben chooses to pay for hosting elsewhere. I hope he will, but I tend to think he won't. *crosses fingers*

This also means that the chatroom (that is also shared with rachaelleighcook.net) will probably be gone. That isn't as important because we can surely find a new IRC chat elseswhere to chat in. Anyone have an ideas? Smile

Unfortunately, this also affects my mailing list. Frown I am maybe most upset about this, because it has been streamlined to work perfectly with how I needed it to work. Unfortunately, that also ran from one of the Hal servers, so that will have to be shutdown too. I have all of the email addresses saved on my computer, but now I need to find another way to send out to several thousand fans. Frown If anyone knows of any ideas or options, please let me know. Sending from my ISP proved to be a problem most of the time and I would prefer not going back to trying that again.

This also means that rachaelleighcook.net is going to have to find new hosting. rachaelleighcook.net is the only site I can promise will survive, because I will ensure it continues to run. If anyone has any ideas or advice on where we should/could host it, please feel free to email me. Any advice is appreciated. Smile (Keep in mind that rlc.net has lots of media files that will need to be hosted.)

Well, I guess that is all for now. I hate to be the bearer of bad news. I know many of you enjoy posting on Roza's MB too and visiting the sites on Hal. There is a slim chance that everything will be back, but it sounds extremely unlikley. The rachaelleighcook.net MB (this one!) will live on, so don't worry about that. Smile

Please anyone feel free to email me if you have any ideas or advice. Thanks, all! TRensalier@aol.com

I'm not going to be of any use as far as hosting is concerned, but you mentioned losing the streamlining you've done... I've been coding PHP/MySQL backends from scratch for several years now and would be happy to contribute whatever I can, if the server you move to supports it.

Sorry, I can't help, I know only free good hosting. Err... unless you want the site to be hosted in Thailand.

Good news! Smile We found a host that will work perfectly for our needs! Smile Everything is in the works. Once it is all set, Steven is going to copy everything to the new host and we should be in business soon and hopefully without almost any downtime! Smile

My ML method may have to change slightly, but this host has a perfect solution for the ML needs I have! Smile I'm really excited about all of this.

Also, it appears that we may have a chatroom to replace the one that will go away when Hal is shutdown. I will confirm this and give an official announcement when it is concreted. Smile

I posted this on the main news page, but felt I should put it here too:

As you already know, rachaelleighcook.net has a new home. The entire site has been moved to a new host, thanks to Steven, and we are not just awaiting the DNS move to make the move complete. The Hal-9000 server will be offline sometime before 3pm tomorrow, so hopefully our move will be done before then to prevent any downtime. If there is any downtime, it should be minimal. If all goes well, the fans won't even notice that anything has happened. Smile

Also, I am happy to say that Ben already has moved his site to its new home and did an update, as well.

http://obsessivefixation.likethewolf.net/

Also, my ML has a new home! I tested it yesterday and it seemed to work perfectly. The only loss is the ability to send attachments. Have no fear, though... I will have a different method to pass along new scans and files. Smile

Roza informed me that she has copied her entire website to her PC and will look for a new home sometime soon. Unfortunately, this does mean that it will be offline for a bit. Also, her message board will be going offline and it is currently unknown if it will return.

As far as our chatroom (which we shared with Roza), there is a plan in the works to have one for us before the next scheduled chat! Smile Stay tuned.

In the end, things mostly worked out, and that is relieving. I was a bit worried there for a bit.

In closing, I would like to again say thank you to Pher and Roza:

Before Hal is shutdown, I wanted to again say thank you to Pher for hosting Roza's MB and Roza's site, along with rachaelleighcook.net for so many years! Smile You are generous beyond words! Thank you also for setting up a wonderful method for me to send out my mailing list to thousands of fans without problems. You are the best! Smile

Also, thank you to Roza for asking me to moderate her message board for all these years. I had no idea it would evolve into something that is somewhat special in my life, like this community has become. Smile

And to think that when I first got a computer, I had no interest in the Internet, message boards and instant messaging! LOL Wink I used to think it was a poor excuse for real-life communication and interaction between people; I used to think it was a bit sad. I learned that it is more than that and isn't a substitute for real-life at all. Smile It is a compliment and has enabled me to make many new friends from all over that I would have not met otherwise.

So... Thank you, Pher and Roza. Smile

Hmmm. That's odd. I wonder why it doesn't resolve for you. Could it be your PC?

nope... about 8 hours ago it was not working for grrapeone also... but yesterday it was fine for Schaumi ... looks like an update on DNS servers are going too slow.. or something wrong with the configuration... may be your admin need to update DNS DB again? to set new timestamp... dunno.. If I'll have access to the server - I can check config and tell you where exactly the problem is..

P.S. (update) where is my signature? why it's not displayed? I've checked in "profile" - it's all okay there... ;-/

Server config is fine, it appears to be at the root level. Network Solutions (our registrar) is listing it properly, and so are other whois servers, but some are still caching old data.

It should iron itself out in the next few days. DNS propagation typically takes from 24-72 hours, plus we just instituted our own name servers, so that can prolong the process.
