Rachael is slated to play the part of Emily Jennings in a short film writen and directed by Joseph Mazzello titled, Matters of Life and Death.

Here is a plot summary:

Three siblings struggle to maintain control of their lives after the unexpected death of their parents thrusts them into an uncertain world of adulthood.

It's not a movie about September 11th, but it touches on it and how it affects a family. I should add that Daniel Gillies also acts in the film. If you hold hostility towards him for marying Rachael, you might take pleasure in seeing him get a bat waved in his face. lol Wink I know how some of you guys are. LOL

On a serious note, the film is going to be 15 minutes long and will be shot on 35mm. (not cheap) As you all likely know, shorts aren't always easy to see, unless you happen to live in the right areas. If you are interested in this one, once it is completed, let's hope it finds its way into a theater near you! Smile I'll update you when news comes available.

Here is the website announcing Rachael and Daniel's participation in this film:

Here is the IMDb link. It doesn't have the full cast listed yet.

Even if it's a short, it's interesting...

26 Summer Street is an example of a Rachael short most of us never got to see, so hopefully this once will find a wider audience. According to the official site of the movie, you can actually now "buy" the DVD, read this:

(from the "You Can Help" section of http://www.joesmovie.com)
$40-99 – Special Thanks Level: A DVD copy of the completed film, name in the credits, a personal thank you letter, personalized signed photograph and an autograph certificate to show you helped out.
----------------------------------------------

If you have a little more money you can even hope to meet Rachael herself:

----------------------------------------------

$1000-4999 – Associate Producer Level: Associate Producer Credit in the film, Crew Passes (meaning you can come on set every day of the shoot if you want), you can be in the film as a priority extra (next to the stars in the scene), passes to the screening and after party, the DVD, a signed poster of the film and an autograph certificate to show you helped out..
-----------------------------------------------

I don't exactly have a lot of faith on Joseph as a director, I mean for some reason I can't help to only think of him as the kid from Jurassic Park. I do however wish him the best of luck on his project, and it's nice to see that he has raised quite a lot of money now and has gotten support from great people (Rachael included Smile). I disagree a bit with him when he says that we "rarely, if ever, do I see stories about how that day (September 11) affected the lives of those who experienced the greatest loss." (I'd say we've seen plenty). However I think that if he can bring an interesting enough story to the screen, with well-defined characters, the fact that we may have seen similar stories won't matter, because (hopefully) he'll have a different point-of-view of the whole thing, or at least a different way to approach it, which will in turn make the movie unique (again, hopefully).

LOL I think I'm just babbling on, anyways looking forward to this.

I'm not so sure why you don't have a lot of faith in Joe as a director. Have you seen him direct yet? Wink Don't be so quick to jump to a judgement. Smile

Also, I don't entirely agree with you on your thoughts that we see alot of stories of how 9/11 affected the lives of the families. I don't think I have seen a single one; maybe you have just seen more movies/TV than I have. Aside from that, Joe wanted to do one that talked about it from the left coast, anyway. People were affected all over and not just in DC and NYC.

All in all, I'm looking forward to this one. Don't be so fast to knock a new director. Wink You just might feel stupid later on when they turn out being the next Spielberg. hehe Wink

You're right I'm probably being a little too quick but I didn't mean to be judgemental. I apologize if I was, I only meant that for some weird reason I can't picture him directing, as I was saying before it may be because I have this image of him as a young boy in films like the previously mentioned Jurassic Park and Simon Birch, but that of course doesn't mean that he can't do it or anything, it's just me LOL I mean he's an awesome actor, there's no reason why he can't be good directing, maybe I just never thought he'd leap into it.

In regards to whether or not we've seen how 9/11 affected the lives of families, I still feel a little "bombarded" by all the stories I saw (and still see from time to time) on the news and on tv specials and documentaries about all the people that were directly affected by such tragedy, which is why I was saying we've seen plenty, obviously not as a dramatic film though so you definitely proved me wrong there Big Grin

Anyways I too look forward to the project, I didn't mean to imply that I wasn't on my previous post, quite the contrary Smile

By the way has anyone here contributed money to the film? I wish I had the money to help Frown

I see what you are saying about seeing Joe as only being a child in movies and how you now find it hard to envision him directing. Actually, his hunger to direct isn't something recent, if I understand correctly. Spielberg was actually part of the reason he wanted to be a director, himself. Smile Just remember to not mix up the character you see on the screen with how/who the actor is in real life. Wink

As far as being bombarded with 9/11 stuff... Now I see what you are talking about. Smile I agree that there was a lot of documentary and interview footage. Yes, I think this may be one of the first things put out there that is a fictional dramatic piece. It is actually supposed to be Joe's own family (in a way) and how people react to tragedy that affects them all.

Don't feel bad about not being able to contribute. I think everything is pretty much under control, at this time. Smile Shooting starts VERY soon, so don't worry so much about the budget being met. Smile

I am sorry for sounding like a p!@#k, but this just sounds like "Party of Five". The only diferences are that there are three siblings instead of five and that the siblings were orphaned by the 9/11 attacks, not a drunk driver.
I hope it dosen't premere at the same time as the eventual films about the lives of the orphans of the Tsunami and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Thanks for the heads up TR. I donated what I could to the film. Now maybe if the would have offered a personalized, autographed picture of Rachael for a donation, I would have dug a little deeper Smile. Even though it’s a short, I hope MOLAD does a good job of showcasing Rachael’s talent (and beauty). Although I prefer her in a “good girl” role like in She’s all that, Josie and the Pussycats, and Tempo, to name a few, she does do the “bad girl” rather well and will be excellent in the part. I’ll even wish good luck to Mr. Rachael Leigh Cook (Daniel), even though most of us know he is already the luckiest man in the world Wink.

Joe cast people he has worked with before, so hopefully he will make an excellent debut with this film and gets the chance to direct a well received, national release, big budget film where Rachael can play the lead and get some of the recognition we all know she deserves. It appears I escaped reality for a moment, but I can always dream and sometimes dreams do come true Smile.

I paid $40 so I could have a copy of the short. I wish I could have a copy of 26 Summer Street, but I am sure by now one would have to pay hundreds of dollars to own it because of its collector's value. So I feel that from a collector's POV, $40 is not too expensive to pay to own a copy of MOLAD.

Does anybody know how long he's accepting donations? I'd like to donate a little, but its going to be at least 3 weeks before I can. I'd like to donate the $40 too, to be able to have a copy of the DVD.

Honestly, filming should definitely be completed within three weeks, but I will ask Joe how long he will be accepting donations. There are things that cost more than just the film, itself, of course. Wink I'll get back to you on that one. Smile

To update you... Joe asked me to let you all know that you can make contributions even after they are done filming. They will need money for the editing process too. Smile There will come a time when he will likely put up a notice on his website thanking everyone and saying that they have all that they need; I'll be sure to let you know when that time comes. Smile

Definitely don't feel obligated to donate. Donate only if you really want to. Smile Nobody is trying to press people into contributing.

I also want a copy of the short! I don't want a repeat of the "26 Summer Street" story Frown Unfortunately I don't think I can afford that right now, hopefully I will before they stop receiving donations.

TR, do you know when the DVD and paraphanlia are going to be shipped? I have not received anything yet, then again I've noticed that items I've ordered through Paypal have taken a month or longer to arrive after they have been shipped. I don't think I'll use their services, when other e-retailors not using Paypal take only a week to arrive, and that's even when I use basic delivery!
