Yes, she technically appeared in three, but the third appearance is literally about a second long (of her [Devon] laughing and rowing a boat on a movie screen), so it is really barely worth mentioning. (I don't even clearly recall the episode name or number.) I think it was the season-ender (#2.22), if I am thinking correctly, though.

Rachael had a decent-sized role in the "His Leading Lady" (#2.13) episode, and that is what the fans are looking for, I'm sure. Smile (It aired originally on February 3rd, 1999, which was only days after "She's All That" opened in U.S. theaters. Smile) She then appears for maybe 20-30 seconds in a later episode, "Psychic Friends" (#2.17), on a movie screen while Dawson is showing his completed film to his teacher.

Overall, if you choose to buy the entire boxed-set just because of Rachael, you will only really get one episode-worth of Rachael. Wink I would advise buying it if you are also a fan of the show, but I am sure some die-hard fans out there will buy it just for Rachael's guest appearance. Wink

P.S. Thanks for this info, Adam. Smile I will move this post to the "News & Information" section and will also probably mention it on the main page. Smile

It's been done in my case, though I once purchased a VHS copy in Asia (Philippines) where this episode was sold with another episode of Dawson's Creek (called "The Kiss")

"His Leading Lady" is one of the best episodes of the series, though I'm not a fan. Rachael really steals the show.

Claude pointed out that the VHS of the episode was available from the Philippines; I just wanted to also mention that the episode has also been available on DVD from the UK. (Region 2) Smile For those who can run Region 2 DVD's, this is a cheaper alternative, because it is contained on a single DVD instead of having to purchase the entire season. Smile

I am also curious to see how they are going to stick 22 episodes onto 4 DVD's. Will this cause the quality to suffer, I wonder? I have movies that require you to flip over the DVD halfway through, or to change disks, so it is amusing that 16 1/2 hours will squish onto 4 DVD's. Strange. Smile

Sorry about the 3 episode note -- as you could probably guess, I hadn't actually ever watched the series...just parroting what I saw on the IMDb.

As far as the four disc bit goes, there are a few possibilities:

1) There will be compression issues and the episodes will accordingly look awful.

2) The pre-release information is wrong and there will be six discs.

3) The DVDs in the set will have data on both sides of the disc. DVD-14s (dual-layer on one side, single-layer on the other) or DVD-18s (both sides have two layers) should be able to easily handle the amount of data in the set.

I'd imagine either there will be more discs than noted, or the discs will be DVD-14s.

Well, only a few minutes ago, Adam Tyner's review of the DVD set appeared on DVD Talk's website. Smile It looks like the set is truly 4 DVD's, but Adam says that the quality is impressive, considering. Smile Read his complete review here:

TR, I don't think you read the whole thing, because he doesn't think the quality is impressive at all:

"The quality of the full-frame video is inconsistent, though this may be representative of how these episodes appeared when they originally aired. The image often has a grainy, noise appearance, varying in weight from shot to shot. The level of detail isn't particularly impressive, intermittently becoming rather soft as well. Substantial chunks of "Full Moon Rising" are almost VCD quality, and a number of episodes have moments like that, if not to the same extent. Six discs is the industry standard for a twenty-two episode season of an hour-long drama, but Dawson's Creek compresses that to four DVDs for this release. I'm not sure if beefing up the bit rate by spreading the material across more DVDs would have made a difference, but I can't say that I'm all that impressed with what I'm seeing here."

"I think maybe we should reorder... I'm kind of a vegetarian."

Ah! Yer right! I thought it was strange that he said that the quality seemed inconsistent and then said at the end that he was impressed, overall. I obviously read the last line incorrectly. Wink That's what I get for reading through the article too quickly. Smile Sorry, Adam!

Not a problem. Smile

Thanks for quoting that block, by the way...I spotted a grammatical error that I missed during the first couple of proofreads. Whoops.

I bought the UK released "Best of Dawson's Creek" DVD over a year ago. One of the four episodes on it was "His Leading Lady". Unlike the complete Season releases this disk has the show in Anamorphic Widescreen (though I suppose this could be a cut down fullscreen image. I had no complaints about the quality of the picture.

More than likely, that season of Dawson's Creek was shot on Super 16 and the full-frame version aired in the U.S. was center-cropped from an 1.78:1 widescreen image.

It may be worth noting, though, that just because a series was shot widescreen doesn't mean it was intended to be seen that way. I don't know about Dawson's Creek specifically, but the first season of Malcolm in the Middle, the entire run of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the first season of Angel were filmed in widescreen but weren't composed with a wider frame in mind.
