Rachael Leigh Cook signs on to star in the indie sports drama, The Final Season for State of Mind Films.
Sean Astin plays head coach, Kent Stock in the true story of the coach who led the high school baseball team in Norway, Iowa, to win 19 state championships in 23 years; Variety reports Cook will play his love interest. Powers Boothe and Tom Arnold are also attached to the film.
David Mickey Evans is directing The Final Season from a script written by Art D'Alessandro. The film is currently in production with a tentative late 2006 release date.
And now for sad news from the set of the movie... One person (Cameraman Roland Schlotzhauer) was killed and two others were critically injured in a helicopter crash while filming a parade scene in the movie yesterday. The helicopter apparently clipped a power line while following a car. It is a tragic day on the set in Iowa. Plans to continue shooting will continue Saturday morning, though.
